My Master’s research is investigating two prominent groups found throughout Newfoundland: Strongylocentrotus droebachensis (aka the green sea urchin) and two types of brown kelp, Alaria esculenta (aka Dabberlocks) and Laminaria digitata (aka Oarweed). I have learned there are multiple common names for kelp so I’ll keep to these ones as they’re my favourite.

As my project is still in it’s early stages I can’t reveal too many details about it. In short, I will be looking into sea urchin gonad development, under different diet regimes, as well as kelp recruitment via use of recruitment structures. Stay tuned for more details, until then enjoy some pictures I have taken while doing my research.
